Taiwan stock markets ended Monday's session in negative territory, with the Taiwan Weighted index closing down 1.00%.
Sector weakness in Oil, Gas & Electricity and Plastic contributed to the decline across the board. By the close, more than twice as many issues fell as rose on the Taiwan Stock Exchange: 664 stocks lost ground, 328 advanced and 128 finished unchanged.
Leading the gainers on the Taiwan Weighted were Mospec Semiconductor Corp (TW:2434), which surged 9.97% or 4.85 points to finish at 53.50; Lite-On Technology Corp (TW:2301), which rose 9.96% or 26.00 points to close at 287.00; and HannsTouch Solution Inc (TW:3049), up 9.96% or 1.15 points to end at 12.70. Lite-On's closing price of 287.00 marked an all-time high for the stock.
On the downside, Lintes Technology Co Ltd (TW:6715) fell 9.93% or 44.50 points to 403.50 at the close. BizLink Holding Inc (TW:3665) declined 9.89% or 225.00 points to finish at 2,050.00, and Regal Holding Co Ltd (TW:4807) lost 9.89% or 3.05 points to end at 27.80.
Commodities and currency moves accompanied the equity action. Crude oil for October delivery dropped 1.69% or 1.47 to $85.59 a barrel. Brent oil for November delivery declined 1.49% or 1.38 to $91.29 a barrel. In precious metals, the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.35% or 16.49 to trade at $4,697.09 a troy ounce.
Foreign exchange rates posted modest adjustments: USD/TWD was down 0.05% at 31.82, while TWD/CNY changed by 0.05% to 0.21. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 98.77.
