Meta rolls out AI-driven Business Agent across Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger

New agent and developer platform aim to automate customer interactions and link with commerce and support systems

Meta Platforms has introduced Meta Business Agent, an AI-powered assistant that automates customer interactions on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. More than one million businesses already use agents on WhatsApp and Messenger. The company is also launching a Business Agent Platform to let firms integrate and scale agents with external systems such as Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee. Initial activation is free, with paid subscription options planned in the coming months. Meta says the agent will provide morning briefings and thread insights now, with plans to extend into market research, product insights and calendar management.

Meta Platforms announced the launch of Meta Business Agent, an AI-driven tool designed to help businesses automate customer-facing conversations across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

According to the company, more than one million businesses already deploy a Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp and Messenger to engage customers. The firm describes the agent as capable of answering questions that are specific to a business, recommending products, booking appointments, qualifying leads and closing sales in customers' local languages.

Meta said it is expanding Business Agent availability to Instagram and opening access to companies of all sizes worldwide. Businesses will be able to activate their agents at no cost to start, with paid subscription tiers expected to be introduced in the coming months.

In parallel, Meta introduced the Meta Business Agent Platform to provide the underlying infrastructure for building, customizing and deploying agents at scale. The platform is said to connect to third-party systems including Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee, enabling agents to take concrete actions on behalf of businesses rather than only responding with text.

The company highlighted operational features that are being made available immediately and planned extensions. Presently, the Business Agent will deliver morning briefings that summarize overnight conversations and provide insights on message threads. Meta also intends to expand agent functionality to assist with day-to-day tasks such as market research, extracting product insights and managing calendars.

The announcement bundles multiple elements: a customer-facing assistant across Meta's messaging properties, a development and integration platform, and a staged commercial model that begins with free activation before moving to paid offerings.
