Istanbul stocks close lower as technology, retail and industrials lead declines

Turkey's benchmark BIST 100 ended Thursday's session down 0.60% as losses in the Technology, Wholesale & Retail Trade and Metal Products & Machinery sectors weighed on the market. The session's top performers included Fenerbahce Futbol AS (IS:FENER), which climbed 4.53% or 0.14 points to finish at 3.23. Turk Altin Isletmeleri AS (IS:TRALT) rose 4.49% or 2.30 points to close at 53.55, and Dogal Enerji Kaynaklari Arastirma ve Uretim AS (IS:TRENJ) increased 3.88% or 3.60 points to end the day at 96.45.

On the downside, Sekerbank TAS (IS:SKBNK) recorded the steepest decline among the listed names cited, falling 9.68% or 1.88 points to trade at 17.55 at the close. Izdemir Enerji Elektrik Uretim AS (IS:IZENR) dropped 7.00% or 0.63 points to finish at 8.37, and Cw Enerji Muhendislik Ticaret ve Sanayi AS (IS:CWENE) fell 5.29% or 2.18 points to end at 39.06.

Commodities saw divergent moves during the session. Gold Futures for August delivery gained 1.35% or 55.30, finishing at $4,137.70 a troy ounce. Crude oil prices retreated: the August contract fell 1.77% or $1.30 to $72.22 a barrel, while the September Brent contract declined 1.46% or $1.14 to trade at $76.88 a barrel.

Currency pairs involving the Turkish lira moved modestly. The USD/TRY pair rose 0.07% to 46.87, and EUR/TRY increased 0.38% to 53.72. Separately, US Dollar Index Futures were quoted down 0.05% at 100.71.


Market participants saw a session of selective strength among individual equities while broader selling pressure prevailed. The data above reflects end-of-day prices and volume patterns across the Istanbul exchange and related commodity and currency markets.
