SAN MATEO, Calif., June 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sagimet Biosciences Inc. (Nasdaq: SGMT), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics targeting dysfunctional metabolic and fibrotic pathways, today announced that the Company has been added to the broad-market Russell 3000® Index and small-cap Russell 2000® Index, effective at the open of U.S. equity markets today, as part of the 2026 Russell Indexes reconstitution.

The June reconstitution of the Russell US indexes captures up to the 4,000 largest US stocks as of April 30, ranking them by total market capitalization. Membership in the Russell 3000® Index, which remains in place for half a year beginning in 2026, means automatic inclusion in the large-cap Russell 1000® Index or small-cap Russell 2000® Index as well as the appropriate growth and value style indexes. FTSE Russell determines membership for its Russell indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes.

“We believe inclusion in the Russell indexes reflects the meaningful progress Sagimet has made over the last year, as we plan to initiate our U.S. Phase 3 clinical trial of denifanstat in moderate to severe acne, including adolescent patients aged 12 years and older, in the second half of this year. If approved, denifanstat would be the first innovative oral treatment for acne vulgaris in patients aged 12 years and older in more than forty years,” said David Happel, Chief Executive Officer of Sagimet. “With the capital in place to fund our programs through 2028, including data readout of our planned denifanstat Phase 3 clinical trial in acne, we look forward to the broader visibility that inclusion in the Russell indexes brings.”
