Taiwan stocks fall as electronic parts and computer-peripheral names weigh; Index down 1.39%

The Taiwan market closed lower, with the Taiwan Weighted index down 1.39%. Losses were concentrated in Electronic Parts/Components and Computers & Peripherals sectors. Several individual names posted double-digit intraday moves in both directions, while commodity and currency markets showed notable shifts.

Taiwan equities ended the trading session lower, with the broad Taiwan Weighted falling 1.39% at the close as sector pressure from Electronic Parts/Components and Computers & Peripherals pushed the market downward.

On the day, a subset of companies recorded strong gains while others posted steep declines. The top performers included Edom Technology Co Ltd (TW:3048), which closed up 10.00% - a 5.10 point advance - finishing at 56.10. Mirle Automation Corp (TW:2464) also rose 10.00%, adding 11.50 points to reach 126.50 at the close. Les Enphants Co Ltd (TW:2911) climbed 9.94% or 0.50 points to end the session at 5.53.

At the opposite end of the tape, Ennoconn Corp (TW:6414) recorded a 10.00% decline, sliding 35.50 points to close at 319.50. Posiflex Technology Inc (TW:8114) dropped 10.00%, a 24.00 point fall to 216.00, and Topoint Technology Co Ltd (TW:8021) fell 9.99%, down 49.00 points to 441.50.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0.

Two of the session's gainers reached record levels: Edom Technology Co Ltd (TW:3048) rose to an all time high, up 10.00% or 5.10 to 56.10, and Mirle Automation Corp (TW:2464) also rose to an all time high, up 10.00% or 11.50 to 126.50.

Commodities and currency moves accompanied equity weakness. Crude oil for July delivery fell 1.05% - down $1.10 - to trade at $103.28 a barrel. Brent crude for July delivery was lower by 1.69% or $1.90, settling at $110.20 a barrel. The June Gold Futures contract slipped 0.35% or 15.99 to trade at $4,542.01 a troy ounce.

On foreign exchange, USD/TWD was up 0.27% to 31.65, while TWD/CNY unchanged 0.23% to 0.21. The US Dollar Index Futures moved down 0.08% to 99.03.


Analysis of the session shows concentrated sector-level weakness in parts and peripherals, alongside idiosyncratic stock moves. A handful of names recorded sizeable gains and reached all time highs, while several others experienced double-digit declines at the close.
