Taiwan Shares Slip as Electronics and Computer Hardware Lead Declines

Taiwan Weighted falls 1.39% at Monday close as several hardware names post double-digit moves

Taiwan equities closed lower on Monday, with the Taiwan Weighted index down 1.39% as losses in Electronic Parts/Components and Computers & Peripherals weighed on the market. A handful of small-cap names posted double-digit gains, including two that reached all-time highs, while several other technology-related stocks fell by around 10%.

Taiwan stocks ended the trading session lower on Monday, pressured by declines in the Electronic Parts/Components and Computers & Peripherals sectors. At the close, the Taiwan Weighted fell 1.39%.

The session featured both large percentage winners and outsized losers. The top performers on the Taiwan Weighted were Edom Technology Co Ltd (TW:3048), Mirle Automation Corp (TW:2464) and Les Enphants Co Ltd (TW:2911).

  • Edom Technology Co Ltd (TW:3048) rose 10.00%, gaining 5.10 points to finish at 56.10.
  • Mirle Automation Corp (TW:2464) added 10.00%, or 11.50 points, to close at 126.50.
  • Les Enphants Co Ltd (TW:2911) increased 9.94%, or 0.50 points, ending the day at 5.53.

On the downside, several stocks recorded roughly 10% losses by the close.

  • Ennoconn Corp (TW:6414) fell 10.00%, a decline of 35.50 points, to close at 319.50.
  • Posiflex Technology Inc (TW:8114) declined 10.00%, losing 24.00 points to end at 216.00.
  • Topoint Technology Co Ltd (TW:8021) was down 9.99%, or 49.00 points, to finish at 441.50.

The report noted that shares in Edom Technology Co Ltd (TW:3048) and Mirle Automation Corp (TW:2464) rose to all-time highs during the session; Edom was up 10.00% to 56.10 and Mirle gained 10.00% to 126.50.

Market breadth was reported in an unusual format. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0, as presented in the session summary.


Commodities also moved during the session. Crude oil for July delivery rose 1.77%, or $1.79, to $102.81 a barrel. Brent oil for July delivery increased 1.49%, or $1.63, to $110.89 a barrel. By contrast, the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.62%, a decline of $28.35, to trade at $4,533.55 a troy ounce.

In foreign exchange and related instruments, USD/TWD was reported up 0.21% to 31.64, while TWD/CNY was unchanged at 0.14% to 0.22. The US Dollar Index Futures was indicated as up 0.03% at 99.24.

The trading day combined modest gains in energy commodities with weakness across key Taiwan technology subsectors, leaving the broader index lower at the close.
