Stock markets in Sweden finished the trading day to the upside on Friday, with a broad advance led by gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors.
At the close in Stockholm the OMX Stockholm 30 index finished up 1.03%.
The top performer on the OMX Stockholm 30 was Hexagon AB ser. B (ST:HEXAb), which climbed 4.72%, adding 3.76 points to finish at 83.36. Atlas Copco AB Class A (ST:ATCOa) also moved higher, gaining 1.80% or 3.60 points to close at 203.90. Svenska Cellulosa SCA AB B (ST:SCAb) rose 1.75%, an increase of 1.80 points, to end the session at 104.80.
On the downside, SAAB AB ser. B (ST:SAABb) was the weakest name among the OMXS30 constituents reported, falling 1.61% or 9.60 points to 587.40 at the close. ABB Ltd (ST:ABB) dropped 0.46%, down 4.40 points to 950.40, and Alfa Laval AB (ST:ALFA) slipped 0.38%, losing 2.20 points to finish at 574.60.
Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Stockholm exchange, with 450 stocks rising versus 271 that fell, and 69 issues unchanged.
Shares of Atlas Copco AB Class A (ST:ATCOa) moved to a 52-week high during the session, closing up 1.80% at 203.90.
Commodity markets showed notable moves during the trading session. Crude oil for September delivery declined 3.99%, a drop of 3.68, to settle at $88.51 a barrel. Brent crude for September delivery fell 4.53%, down 4.56, to $96.13 a barrel. In contrast, the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.71%, gaining 28.60 to trade at $4,078.80 a troy ounce.
In foreign exchange markets, EUR/SEK weakened by 0.44% to 11.04, while USD/SEK fell 0.51% to 9.70. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures was quoted down 0.10% at 101.18.
Market participants will note the composition of winners and losers across capital goods and materials names, while energy-related commodity weakness and modest currency moves were the other prominent themes of the session.
