Portugal's stock market ended Thursday's session in negative territory as losses concentrated in the Industrials, Basic Materials and Financials sectors pushed the benchmark down. At the close in Lisbon, the PSI registered a decline of 0.27%.
Energy stocks accounted for several of the day's best performers on the PSI. Galp Energia Nom (ELI:GALP) led the advance, finishing up 3.71% or 0.75 points at 20.96. Ren Redes Energeticas Nacionais SGPS SA (ELI:RENE) added 0.54% or 0.02 points to close at 3.71, while EDP Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) rose 0.28% or 0.01 points to 4.62 by the end of trading.
On the downside, CTT Correios de Portugal SA (ELI:CTT) was the session laggard, dropping 4.67% or 0.29 points to finish at 5.93. Teixeira Duarte (ELI:TDSA) fell 2.93% or 0.01 points to close at 0.48, and Corticeira Amorim (ELI:CORA) declined 2.74% or 0.18 points to 6.40.
Market breadth in Lisbon leaned negative, with 20 stocks declining versus 5 advancing. Another 5 issues finished unchanged.
Commodities moved markedly during the session. Brent oil for September delivery climbed 6.93% or 6.52 to settle at $100.59 a barrel. U.S. crude for September delivery rose 6.33% or 5.50 to $92.33 a barrel. By contrast, the August Gold Futures contract fell 2.43% or 100.70 to trade at $4,051.20 a troy ounce.
Currency and index moves were modest. EUR/USD was noted as unchanged 0.32% at 1.14, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.20% at 0.85. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% and stood at 101.30 at the time reported.
