Norway's stock market closed in negative territory on Friday, with the Oslo OBX ending the session down 0.58%. Sectors including Media, Transport and Diversified Financials were cited as contributors to the downward pressure on the index.
On the Oslo OBX, a handful of names bucked the trend while others posted notable declines. Cmb.Tech NV (OL:CMBT) was the session's top performer on the index, finishing up 1.60% - a gain of 2.40 points - to close at 152.80. SalMar ASA (OL:SALM) added 1.50%, or 7.50 points, to reach 508.50 at the close. DnB ASA (OL:DNB), one of the larger financials on the exchange, rose 1.25% or 3.70 points to end the day at 298.70.
Several stocks recorded larger losses. Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OL:NOD) led the decliners among the highlighted names, falling 3.41% or 5.60 points to trade at 158.40 at the close. Nel ASA (OL:NEL) slipped 3.40%, a drop of 0.08 points, to finish at 2.13. TGS NOPEC Geophysical Company ASA (OL:TGS) retreated 3.02% or 4.10 points to close at 131.80.
Market breadth favored decliners: 137 stocks fell versus 114 that advanced, and 23 issues finished unchanged on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Commodities showed notable moves alongside the equity session. Crude oil for September delivery declined 2.85%, down 2.63 to trade at $89.56 a barrel. Brent crude for September delivery dropped 3.60%, or 3.62, to $97.07 a barrel. Precious metals moved differently - the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.36%, gaining 14.47 to trade at $4,064.67 a troy ounce.
Foreign exchange rates also shifted during the day. EUR/NOK weakened by 0.25% to 10.90, while USD/NOK fell 0.28% to 9.58. The US Dollar Index Futures was reported down 0.06% at 101.23.
The session left the OBX modestly lower and reflected a broad mix of sector performance, with a number of individual stocks moving markedly in both directions amid weaker oil prices and modest FX adjustments.
