Among the laggards, TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin (MCX:TATN) dropped 0.35% or 1.80 points to 514.30 at the close. LUKOIL PJSC (MCX:LKOH) fell 0.34% or 16.00 points to finish at 4,701.00, while NOVATEK PJSC (MCX:NVTK) slipped 0.31% or 3.20 points to close at 1,015.80.

Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Moscow Stock Exchange, with 188 stocks rising compared with 43 that declined; 19 issues finished unchanged.

The Russian Volatility Index - RVI, which tracks implied volatility in options on the MOEX Russia Index, was unchanged on the session at 47.85.


Commodity and currency moves were mixed. Gold Futures for August delivery rose 0.51%, gaining 20.60 to trade at 4,070.80 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for September delivery fell 2.14% or 1.86 to $85.15 a barrel, while the September Brent contract declined 3.88% or 3.91 to $96.78 a barrel.

In foreign exchange, the U.S. dollar traded lower against the ruble as USD/RUB fell 0.83% to 77.65; EUR/RUB was down 0.91% to 88.27. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures was modestly higher, up 0.02% at 101.30.
