Aug 31 - A missile strike in Belgorod, a Russian city near the border with Ukraine, killed two people and wounded 16, acting governor Alexander Shuvayev said on the Telegram messaging app.
Shuvayev said the fatalities followed an attack on a commercial facility in the city that started a blaze affecting seven warehouses. Separately, Russian online retailer Ozon stated on Telegram that a logistics hub and a sorting facility in Belgorod were struck, resulting in a fire and injuries. It was not immediately clear whether the facilities Ozon described are the same ones referred to by Shuvayev.
In a separate incident earlier in the week, at least 38 people were killed after a Russian drone strike sparked a detonation at an ammunition depot in the Kyiv area, authorities said.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The two countries continue to exchange strikes on one another's infrastructure - including ports, energy installations and logistic facilities - while denying deliberate attacks on civilians. The reports of damage and casualties in Belgorod could not be independently confirmed.
On the financial side, Sberbank has approved restructuring loans totaling 6.8 billion roubles for traders that sell goods through online marketplaces Ozon and Wildberries, the state news agency TASS reported, citing a bank executive. The article included the exchange rate of $1 = 86.1455 roubles.
Market and sector implications
The reported strikes affect physical logistics capacity and the safety of commercial supply chains in border regions. E-commerce logistics and warehousing operations are directly implicated by the fires and damage reports. The announced loan restructurings by Sberbank relate to financing terms for traders that rely on those marketplaces, which could influence credit provisioning for e-commerce participants.
Information limitations
Officials and companies issued the initial accounts via Telegram and state media; independent verification of the described damage was not available at the time of reporting. It was also unclear from the available statements whether descriptions of affected facilities from different sources referred to identical sites.
