Top and bottom movers

Among the best-performing names on the IBEX 35, Indra A (BME:IDR) led the gainers, advancing 7.08% or 3.62 points to finish at 54.72. Cellnex Telecom SA (BME:CLNX) added 4.77% or 1.19 points, closing at 26.12. On the downside, Banco Santander (BME:SAN) was the weakest large-cap, sliding 4.07% or 0.49 points to close at 11.59. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. Market breadth and activity

On the Madrid Stock Exchange, decliners outpaced advancers by a wide margin: 137 stocks fell, 50 advanced and 19 finished unchanged. The breadth data underscores the broadly negative tone across sectors during the session.

Commodities and FX

Commodities saw mixed moves. Gold Futures for August delivery were down 2.42% or 100.55 to $4,051.35 a troy ounce. In energy markets, Crude oil for September delivery rose 6.29% or 5.46 to reach $92.29 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract climbed 6.87% or 6.46 to trade at $100.53 a barrel.

In currency markets, EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% at 1.14, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.20% at 0.85. The US Dollar Index Futures were stronger, up 0.35% at 101.31.

Context and takeaways

The session featured selective stock-level strength amid a wider market pullback. Gains in technology and pharmaceutical-related names contrasted with broader weakness in financials and consumer-facing companies. The moves in oil and gold added further market cross-currents ahead of the next trading day.

Risks

  • Sector concentration of losses - Financial Services & Real Estate, Consumer Services and Building & Construction suffered broad declines, which could continue to weigh on overall market performance.
  • Commodity price volatility - Large moves in oil prices and a sharp decline in gold futures introduce uncertainty for energy-linked and commodity-sensitive sectors.
  • Market breadth deterioration - With 137 decliners versus 50 advancers and 19 unchanged, the uneven market participation raises the risk of further downside pressure if weak sectors remain under selling pressure.
