Germany's stock market ended the week on a positive note as the DAX registered a 0.82% gain at the close on Friday, settling at a new all-time high. The mid-cap MDAX rose 0.22% and the technology-focused TecDAX climbed 0.44% at the close in Frankfurt.
Offsets to the broader advance were limited, with the market buoyed by gains in the Utilities, Chemicals and Insurance sectors. Automotive and luxury carmakers were among the top contributors to the session's upside.
Top DAX performers
- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMWG) led the index, gaining 4.50% - up 2.70 points to close at 62.64.
- Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (VOWG_p) added 3.23% - a rise of 2.42 points to finish at 77.42.
- Mercedes Benz Group AG (MBGn) advanced 2.96% - up 1.35 points to end the session at 46.95.
Lagging names on the DAX
- Rheinmetall AG (RHMG) was the heaviest decliner on the index, slipping 1.59% - down 18.60 points to 1,154.60 at the close.
- Scout24 AG (G24n) fell 0.98% - a drop of 0.80 points to 80.45.
- Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (FREn) eased 0.75% - down 0.35 points to 45.86.
MDAX movers
- Lanxess AG (LXSG) climbed 3.87% to 14.49.
- Aumovio Se (AMV0n) rose 3.74% to settle at 36.10.
- Wacker Chemie O.N. (WCHG) gained 3.16% to close at 93.10.
On the downside among MDAX names, Redcare Pharmacy NV (RDC) fell 5.86% to 63.50, Hensoldt Ag (HAGG) lost 2.26% to settle at 87.20, and TKMS GmbH (TKMS) was down 1.65% to 89.60 at the close.
TecDAX performers
- TeamViewer AG (TMV) rose 2.57% to 7.18.
- SMA Solar Technology AG (S92G) was up 2.23% to settle at 57.25.
- Siltronic AG (WAFGn) gained 2.08% to close at 81.10.
Winners on the TecDAX outpaced a handful of decliners, with Hensoldt Ag (HAGG) down 2.26% to 87.20, Kontron AG (KTN) losing 1.83% to 22.50 and Aixtron SE (AIXGn) falling 1.32% to 36.60.
Market breadth in Frankfurt favored advances: rising stocks outnumbered decliners by 389 to 259, while 28 issues finished unchanged.
Volatility and commodities
The DAX volatility index, which reflects implied volatility in DAX options, rose 2.10% to 16.36.
In commodities trading, December Gold Futures were down 2.07% or 96.50 to $4,567.50 a troy ounce. Crude oil for October delivery fell 0.60% or 0.50 to $83.03 a barrel, and the November Brent contract declined 0.63% or 0.56 to trade at $87.96 a barrel.
Foreign exchange and dollar
On the currency front, EUR/USD was lower by 0.49% at 1.16. EUR/GBP was reported unchanged at 0.22% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures increased 0.45% to 99.54.
The session closed with major German benchmarks higher and several large-cap industrial and chemical names posting notable gains, while a smaller group of defense and healthcare-related stocks lagged.
