During an interview broadcast on Fox Business Network from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump affirmed on Thursday that the United States and Denmark are in the midst of negotiating the terms of a potential agreement concerning Greenland. Trump conveyed that the discussions are actively addressing the parameters of U.S. involvement with the Danish territory.
"The details are still under negotiation, but fundamentally it involves total access. There is no expiration or time limit," the president explained. These developments come in close succession to his recent withdrawal of tariff threats targeting Denmark and his clear statement that the U.S. would not resort to military action to secure Greenland.
The president highlighted that the agreement under consideration would provide unrestricted and indefinite U.S. access to Greenland. However, the precise provisions and conditions remain subjects of ongoing diplomatic conversations between American and Danish officials.
This step reflects a continued effort by the United States to formalize its engagement on Greenland without escalating tensions following earlier controversial remarks.
