Vishay Intertechnology Inc (NYSE: VSH) saw its stock climb 3% on Wednesday following the release of a series of silicon carbide power modules engineered for medium to high frequency power applications.
The product family comprises five 1200 V MOSFET power modules - the VS-SF50LA120, VS-SF50SA120, VS-SF100SA120, VS-SF150SA120, and VS-SF200SA120 - provided in single switch and low side chopper configurations. Each module incorporates Vishay's latest generation SiC MOSFETs housed in the industry-standard SOT-227 package, a form factor that the company says facilitates integration into a variety of systems.
The modules are targeted at multiple end markets, including automotive, energy, industrial, and telecom systems. Specific application areas listed by the company include solar inverters, electric vehicle off-board chargers, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), DC/DC converters, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, large-scale battery storage systems, and telecom power supplies.
A notable electrical design feature is the integration of a SiC MOSFET paired with a soft body diode engineered for low reverse recovery. According to Vishay, this characteristic reduces switching losses and raises overall efficiency in switching operations. The modules also deliver continuous drain currents spanning from 50 A to 200 A and feature low on-resistance values down to 12.1 mΩ. High-speed switching capability is achieved with low capacitance, and the components are rated to operate at junction temperatures up to +175 °C.
The SOT-227 package is highlighted as compact and compatible with prevailing board-level implementations. Vishay positions the modules as drop-in replacements for competing solutions, enabling designers to adopt SiC MOSFET technology without the need to alter PCB layouts. The company suggests this compatibility can potentially reduce development time and cost when upgrading existing designs to incorporate SiC devices.
Market reaction to the product launch was reflected in the share price move, with the stock gaining 3% on the announcement day. The product family spans a range of current ratings and is offered in configurations intended to meet diverse application requirements across several sectors.
