Taiwan's equity market finished the session in the red on Wednesday, with the Taiwan Weighted ending the day down 1.82% as losses in the Glass and Paper & Pulp sectors applied downward pressure on the market.

On individual stock performance, Ta Liang Technology Co Ltd (TW:3167) led the winners, jumping 10.00% - an increase of 40.50 points - to close at 445.50. Taita Chemical Co Ltd (TW:1309) advanced 9.96%, or 2.35 points, to finish the session at 25.95. Ennostar Inc (TW:3714) was also among the top gainers, rising 9.94% - up 4.90 points - to end at 54.20.

At the other end of the tape, Advanced Optoelectronic Technology Inc (TW:3437) recorded the steepest decline, falling 9.98% or 2.25 points to close at 20.30. Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group Co Ltd (TW:1589) dropped 9.92%, or 0.61 points, to finish at 5.54, while Chung Hwa Pulp Corp (TW:1905) fell 9.88%, losing 1.65 points to settle at 15.05.

Market breadth as reported showed that falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0.

The session included several benchmark milestones and troughs for specific names. Shares of Ta Liang Technology rose to all-time highs, closing at 445.50 after the 10.00% gain. Taita Chemical's shares climbed to three-year highs following their 9.96% increase to 25.95, and Ennostar's shares likewise reached three-year highs after the 9.94% rise to 54.20. Conversely, Yeong Guan Energy's stock fell to an all-time low at 5.54 after its 9.92% decline.

Commodities traded with significant moves during the session. U.S. crude oil for May delivery registered a sharp drop of 15.23%, down $17.20 to $95.75 a barrel. Brent crude for June delivery fell 14.10%, a decline of $15.41, to $93.86 a barrel. In metals markets, the June gold futures contract rose 2.65%, an increase of $125.45, to trade at $4,857.70 a troy ounce.

Currency markets showed modest changes versus the Taiwanese dollar. The USD/TWD exchange rate was down 0.45% at 31.76, while TWD/CNY was unchanged at 0.22, reflecting a 0.09% move. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures traded lower as well, down 1.11% at 98.57.
