Taiwan's main index ended the session lower, slipping 0.43% as declines in the Glass and Plastic sectors weighed on the market. A small group of companies posted strong gains, including Lingsen Precision Industries, while several semiconductor-related names and other stocks recorded double-digit drops. Commodities and currency benchmarks showed divergent moves during the session.

Taiwan equities finished the trading day in negative territory on Monday, with the Taiwan Weighted closing down 0.43%.

Selling pressure was concentrated in the Glass and Plastic sectors, which pulled the benchmark lower by the end of the session. Advancers and decliners ended the day unevenly on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Among individual performers, Lingsen Precision Industries Ltd (TW:2369) led the winners, advancing 10.00% - a rise of 3.25 points - to close at 35.75. Sinbon Electronics Co Ltd (TW:3023) climbed 9.98% or 24.50 points to finish the day at 270.00, while Shin Tai Industry Co Ltd (TW:1235) gained 9.96% or 3.60 points, settling at 39.75 at the close.

On the downside, Nanya Technology Corp (TW:2408) registered a 10.00% decline, losing 26.00 points to end at 234.00. Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology Inc (TW:3006) fell 9.91% or 21.50 points, closing at 195.50, and Amtran Technology Co Ltd (TW:2489) dropped 9.91% or 4.25 points to 38.65.

The session saw a mix of extremes, with several stocks moving by roughly 10% in either direction. Lingsen Precision Industries reached an all-time high during the session, closing up 10.00% to 35.75.


Commodity and currency markets were mixed during the trading day. Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.27% or 0.27 to $98.50 a barrel. Brent crude for June delivery rose 1.12% or 1.19, reaching $107.60 a barrel. By contrast, the June Gold Futures contract declined 5.73% or 264.19 to trade at $4,345.41 a troy ounce.

In currency moves, USD/TWD rose 0.26% to 32.11. TWD/CNY was effectively unchanged at 0.14% to 0.22. The US Dollar Index Futures moved up 0.15% to 99.61.
