Colombian equities closed the trading session on Tuesday with gains, driven by strength in the Industrials, Services and Agriculture sectors. At the close, the COLCAP index rose 4.17% to register a new one-month high.
The session's strongest individual performers on the COLCAP included Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores SA Pref (BVC:GAA_p), which climbed 7.18% - an increase of 52.00 points - to finish at 776.00. Corporacion Financiera Colombiana SA (BVC:CFV) gained 4.84%, adding 760.00 points to end the day at 16,460.00. Banco De Bogota SA (BVC:BBO) also advanced, rising 3.83% or 1,400.00 points to close at 38,000.00.
Not all names shared in the upside. The session's largest decliners included Grupo Argos SA (BVC:ARG), which tumbled 9.82% - a drop of 1,640.00 points - to settle at 15,060.00. Banco Davivienda Pf (BVC:DVI_p) slipped 7.78%, losing 1,860.00 points to finish at 22,040.00. Organizacion Terpel SA (BVC:TPL) fell 4.86%, down 900.00 points to 17,600.00 at the close.
On aggregate, advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the Colombia Stock Exchange by a ratio of 1 to 0.
Grupo Argos SA (BVC:ARG) registered a 52-week low in the session, moving down to 15,060.00 after the 9.82% decline.
Commodities saw gains during the trading period. US coffee C for May delivery increased 1.81%, up 5.30 to $297.85. US cocoa for May delivery rose 3.68%, gaining 116.00 to reach $3,271.00. The June Gold Futures contract added 3.11%, an uptick of 141.75, trading at $4,699.25 a troy ounce.
Currency markets showed small moves. The USD/COP rate edged up 0.01% to 3,683.91, while BRL/COP rose 0.01% to 710.92. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.66%, trading at 99.70.
Market participants will note the contrast between broad index strength - led by Industrials, Services and Agriculture - and sharp individual stock declines among several prominent listings. The session's price action also coincided with modest strength in select commodity futures and a softer US dollar index.
