Apple is evaluating a new Siri capability that would let users group several requests into one prompt, according to people familiar with the work. The development is part of the company's effort to upgrade its voice assistant ahead of the next major OS cycle.
The multi-request feature is being built into iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, operating systems scheduled for release later this year, the sources said. Under the proposed design, a single instruction could contain multiple actions - for example, asking Siri to check the weather, create a calendar appointment and send a message within the same query. Today, Siri generally requires those tasks to be issued one at a time.
Beyond parsing multiple commands, Apple is working to make Siri more context-aware. Engineers are developing the assistant to better incorporate information about the user and elements on the device screen when interpreting requests, the people said. That effort is part of a wider push to expand what Apple calls Apple Intelligence across its platforms.
The company intends to present the revamped Siri and other Apple Intelligence features at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. The unveiling will showcase the new functionality as part of the broader updates tied to this year’s OS releases.
In related work, Apple has also explored revisions to the system keyboard that would extend autocorrect functionality by offering a broader set of alternative word choices, the people added. That keyboard update is being considered alongside the assistant improvements as part of system-level refinements.
Context and next steps
The developments remain in testing and are being integrated into the operating system updates Apple plans to ship later this year. The company’s public presentation on June 8 will provide the first formal look at how these features will be delivered to users.
